Dream Hotel New York: Experience a Midtown Manhattan Dream!
The Dream Hotel emerges like a surreal vision from the unconscious at the landmark Beaux-Arts Building near the corner of Broadway and 55th Street. This fully modern hotel with 216 guest rooms and suites and three on-site dining choices is a solid choice for a midtown experience.
The lobby’s golden light fixtures increase the surreal feel of the hotel’s theme, and the specifically decorated rooms provide for a unique experience in this boutique hotel.
Features:
- Excellent location – three blocks from Central Park, one block from Carnegie Hall, and steps away from Times Square and Rockefeller Center;
- Impressive in-room amenities;
- Three On-site restaurants – Rm. Fifty5 Lounge, the chic lobby-level cocktail bar; Serafina, the festive Italian restaurant; and the Ava Lounge, a spectacular 1950s French Riviera-themed rooftop bar with a majestic view;
- Fitness center – for staying on your workout routine while on the road;
- 24-hour concierge service – for all your guest service needs, information and tips on getting around New York City.
Pro’s: It’s hard to be disconnected from the worldwide web and hi-end digital entertainment, and the Dream Hotel’s rooms come with broadband high-speed Internet access and plasma TVs. While you probably won’t spend too much time in your room (you might party all night), the WiFi will assist your planning your day and night activities in the comfort of your room. The sumptuous Kashwere bathrobes and Molton Brown toiletries added a level of swankiness to one’s morning routine.
The Dream Hotel is located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, so you can get to the vast majority of alluring cultural attractions – Rockefeller Center and Carnegie Hall are super close, and Central Park is only three quick blocks away. And it’s only two blocks away from the 7th Avenue Transportation Station.
The lobby’s huge aquarium will be etched into your mind, as it captivates the imagination as you’re completing the check-in process. When you get to your room, you’ll raise an eyebrow at the unique design scheme.
While the fitness center isn’t large or designed for a vigorous workout, if you ask the hotel staff that you can provide access to the Gold’s Gym, which is only two blocks away.
Reservations are recommended, but not necessary to acquire accommodations.
Con’s: The Ava Lounge on the rooftop, while thrilling with its view yet chill with its vibe, is not a cheap place for drinks; and the wait staff is slightly overworked.
While the rooms are equipped with large flatscreens, HBO or similar Pay-TV movie options aren’t available; you can get a DVD player brought to your room. There are iPod docking stations for your pleasure.
For a hotel in this price range you would hope, or rather expect, Express Check-out, but that’s not the case. And the rooms with the full-sized bed aren’t spacious enoug you’ll probably want to upgrade to fully enjoy this boutique hotel if you want to sleep all day. However, this is New York City, the rooms aren’t going to be huge (unless you outlay the cash for a suite).
Benefits I Personally Admire:
As an allergy sufferer, many times I wake up with congested sinuses. However, the bed linens at the Dream Hotel consisted of 300-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and an allergen-free feather bed and duvet. No need for Benadryl to clear my head in the morning, as I have to do at most hotels. The elegant and minimalist inspired meeting rooms were impressive for the late-night meeting I had with business associates who flew in from the Middle East. The room we used was sophisticated and exuded the right blend of art and corporate for the business charm that I wanted.
Final Thoughts:
The price range and size of the rooms and the other drawbacks mar this so-called Dream Hotel from being an excellent experience. As the Ava Lounge is a major attraction for hotel guests as well a place for New Yorkers to meet for cocktails, the service and hospitality there needs to be pristine; it wasn’t. The in-room amenities are impressive, but not full-service (see earlier about lack of HBO/Pay-TV) and the dining is quite good. The hotel staff is inconsistent with its service, and that’s not really acceptable with a luxury hotel of this caliber and high room rates.
Conclusion:
If you’re looking midtown New York accommodation, the Dream Hotel is a boutique hotel that is quite close to many of the must-see attractions and to nearly any other place in Manhattan – at that’s a good thing; you’re nowhere near Brooklyn Queens or the other boroughs, but there is enough to occupy you in Manhattan as it is. The décor compliments the dreamscape theme, the rooms are comfortable, the beds envelop you, and you’ll have an exciting nightlife experience at the Ava Lounge, and that contributes to the dreamy, surreal theme of the hotel. Just in case it doesn’t suit you for some reason, we advise you to check the Edison hotel New York and the Belvedere hotel New York. You won’t be disappointed from neither of them!
